Live Gig Review

The Ruts DC - Wedgewood rooms

Artist - The Ruts D.C

Town / City - Portsmouth

Venue - The Wedgewood Rooms

Date - 19th May 23

Counterculture is the newest product from The Ruts DC and several tracks are played this evening, they sit side by side with the 1980's songs providing good bedfellows.

There is no pomp or circumstance, everyone in The Wedgewood Rooms knows what to expect  well played and crafted music honed over the many years of the band's existence.

A few original Ruts tracks are aired including SUS, followed by Kill The Pain which shows they can write killer tunes post 1980, from the album Music Must Destroy.

With the dubby skanking tune Jah War The Ruts always set themselves apart having dipped into different genres for their musical references and it hits the spot with the crowd who are happy to shuffle to the rhythm.

Leigh Heggarty as in the photos throws plenty of "shapes" while faultlessly producing the Ruts Guitar sound we have always adored. The set progresses with Something That I Said  followed by the all time classic In A Rut a punk classic that simply doesn't get enough airing. To complete the hatrick we get Babylon is Burning.

The encore provides Staring at the Rude Boys and all can leave happy till their next fix which is never far down the line.
