FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Isle of Wight indie specialists ugly ozo release brand new single ‘hi, how are you?’, out today (February 3rd) via REX RECS.
The anxious brainchild of artist Jessica Baker, ugly ozo is a sonic diary of a chronic oversharer, exposing the rawest corners of the female experience. Formed just a year ago, the trio (Jessica Baker, joined by her sister Boo Baker on bass and Tristan Northard on drums) are turning heads across the UK live scene, rapidly becoming one of the most talked about acts on the emerging indie landscape.
Their unrelenting energy and infectious sound has earned acclaim from the likes of DIY Magazine, Dork Magazine, The Line Of Best Fit, Clash, Rough Trade, Notion and Under The Radar following the release of 2025 debut EP ‘stargirl’, whilst radio support spans BBC 6 Music’s influential Iggy Pop, Nathan Shepherd, Chris Hawkins and Amy Lamé as well as John Kennedy (Radio X) and Cheryl Waters (KEXP).
Signed to REX RECS, the new indie label founded by producer Macks Faulkron of North London’s REX Studio and home to artists including Caroline Polachek, Confidence Man, Daniel Avery, Picture Parlour, and She’s In Parties, ugly ozo continue to strive forward, pushing boundaries with their electrifying musicality and live shows (sold-out Shacklewell Arms headliner last autumn).
With a second EP due in the spring and festival and live appearances filling up (including a Dork HYPE 2026 show at London’s iconic 100 Club last week), ugly ozo’s profile is primed to reach new heights.
Detailing ‘hi, how are you?’, written during a period of burnout and emotional exhaustion, confronting depression head-on, Jessica Baker explained:
