Unhurried by time and unperturbed by fads and fashion, The Lathums continue their single-minded mission to spread the joys of deeply felt songwriting with the release of their first new music in more than 12 months, revealing Vice Versa today. Now counting down weeks rather than months to the five-year anniversary of the seismic release of their debut No.1 album, the band led by heart-on-sleeve, sweet-singing street poet, Alex Moore, re-emerge in typically reflective mood while simultaneously signposting their future plans. 

Although never completely inactive, having hand-picked live outings to suit over the last year, including their memorable, debut Far East and Australia shows last August, the last time fans were gifted new music was June 2025’s standalone release of the dubby Cobblestones. An almost lost rush of classic Lathums, that track was rescued to appear on an extended edition of their third, 2025 album, Matter Does Not Define (“A cohesive and observant third album” – Clash Magazine) prior to some of the band’s biggest UK live shows to date. 

After warming up with a run of purposely intimate live dates earlier this month, The Lathums take on summer energised by the unwavering support of their loyal fans. That enduring connection, combined with an openness to influences beyond their close-knit circle, has helped fuel the band's latest burst of creativity. Visually encapsulated with an emotive video, shot by long-term collaborator, James Slater, Vice Versa’s lyrics ponder vulnerability and seek self-assurance.

Experimenting through writing sessions with Grammy-nominated musician, Ian Archer (Liam Gallagher, Jake Bugg, Tom Smith), Moore’s comfort zone was extended beyond his native Wigan towards the south coast and into a collaboration that went beyond the boundaries of music alone. In the act of sharing ideas, ambitions and frustrations, the frontman returned to his bandmates with not only Vice Versa, but a renewed sense of enlightenment.

“‘Vice Versa’ was written from a feeling of not fully belonging in the world we’ve built around ourselves,” explains Moore. “It came from that experience of having everything you need to survive, yet still feeling hungry for meaning, connection, and peace. The song sits between connection and alienation, between needing people deeply and fearing what we carry inside ourselves.

“Writing it with Ian down in Brighton pushed me into a much more vulnerable place creatively, and what started as a songwriting session very quickly became more like a therapy session. We spoke a lot about identity, dependence, fear and navigating life, and it ended up being probably the most open, honest and raw writing experience I’ve had in my career so far.” 

The Lathums’ songbook is now three albums deep, providing every live show with fan favourites from their debut, 2021’s How Beautiful Life Can Be and its follow-up, 2023’s From Nothing To A Little Bit More, joined by last year’s genre-hopping third UK Top Five long-player. Their live engagements for the remainder of 2026 kick off tonight in support of Richard Ashcroft at Alexandra Palace Park, London before their summer festival fun gets underway at Nottingham’s Splendour 2026 this weekend.

With new music understandably starting rumours amongst fans of more to come, with touring plans potentially set to follow, all of The Lathums’ currently confirmed live dates for the remainder of this year are as follows:

Joining Moore in The Lathums as they turn another corner into an exciting new phase are founding members, Scott Concepcion (lead guitar) and Ryan Durrans (drums), with bass and backing vocals talisman, Matty Murphy continuing to assert his considerable influence.

More than a band, The Lathums continue to bring focus to the need for high-quality arts experiences for young people who would otherwise miss out. Establishing their Chance To See Fund in partnership with North West charity, Curious Minds, the band, their fans and a range of supporters have raised tens of thousands of pounds to improve young people’s access to cultural experiences.
