“In a time of Gen-Z stars and micro-trends, Pope is a rarity: a crowd-pleaser,

whatever the crowd. His genre-bending, pop-minded soul is the sort to cross age

boundaries and climb charts” - The Independent

10th October 2025

South London artist and songwriter Max Pope today releases his second album PRAISE ANIMAL, a visceral reflection on the raw, messier sides of human nature. Recorded at North London’s The Church Studios and produced by Riley Macintyre (Arlo Parks, The Kills, Glass Animals), the record explores darker territory; navigating our instincts, fragility, and the search for meaning in an increasingly unnatural world. Listen to/buy PRAISE ANIMAL here.

So far, Max has released excerpts from PRAISE ANIMAL in singles home, right or wrong, love someone self destruct, love Is dead and borderline, which have seen support from BBC 6 Music, Dork, Dummy, 101 Part Time Jobs & more. To round off the album, he today shares single ‘one foot in front of the other’ a track about soul-searching and coming to realisation, drawing inspiration from a melting pot of genres; alternative indie, soul and americana soundscapes.

Max speaks on the track, “Visually, this song is remembering who you are in the middle of a vast, open desert. Regaining consciousness, after a dark and dreamless slumber (a lost chapter). Realising that you have someone and something to return to and feeling the pull of that person from deep within, despite the great distance that lies in-between. I was much inspired by the film “Paris, Texas” in the writing of this song, which follows a similar narrative. It’s a journey of reconnection, an awakening of feelings that once seemed dead and gone”.

Max will be making his anticipated live return tonight with a sold out headline show at London’s Folklore, where he’ll perform tracks from PRAISE ANIMAL from start to finish for the first time.

Rooted in the rich musical landscape of South London, Max Pope honed his craft at the Brit School, performing alongside artists like Loyle Carner and collaborating with musicians including Mahalia, Tom Misch, Yussef Dayes, and ABRA. His debut album Counting Sheep (2022) drew praise from The Independent, The Line Of Best Fit, Why Now, and others, establishing his signature guitar tone and emotive vocal style.

With his new album PRAISE ANIMAL, Pope deepens his exploration of humanity, memory, and connection, inviting listeners to confront what is real, intimate, and profoundly human, no matter how complex or challenging.
