Imogen Heap’s beloved landmark album Speak For Yourself was released exactly 20 years ago on July 18, 2005. Entirely written, produced, and mixed by Imogen Heap herself, it helped redefine what an independent artist could accomplish - creatively and commercially. She is thrilled to celebrate this monumental day with the announcement of the Speak For Yourself (20th Anniversary Remaster) due out October 17 via Megaphonic Records. Timed with intention, the release date celebrates Imogen reclaiming full control of her work, with her publishing rights reverting on that day and her masters already back in her hands since early 2025.

To mark the 20th anniversary today and to celebrate the success of RIAA certified Gold single “Hide and Seek” and RIAA certified Platinum single “Headlock,” Imogen is releasing an exclusive conversation with longtime collaborator and world renowned mastering engineer Simon Heyworth assisted by his colleague Bill Sellar at SuperAudioMastering in Devon about the creative process behind the song’s new remastered version out today July 18, 2025 via Megaphonic Records. Heyworth worked on the original album 20 years ago and returns with his audio engineering magic to bring a refreshed and renewed production quality to the beloved record.

Discuss Remastering “Hide and Seek”

This special new release celebrates the record’s cultural impact and legacy – from “Hide and Seek” being parodied in Saturday Night Live’s “Dear Sister” 2007 digital short, to Ariana Grande reimagining “Goodnight and Go” on her 2018 album Sweetener with Heap credited as a co-writer, and most recently “Headlock” going viral on TikTok in late 2024, leading to a Billboard Hot 100 debut in Jan 2025. “Headlock” was also recently sampled by ONEFOUR feat The Kid Laroi in their collab “Distant Strangers”.

Revered in tandem for her work embracing technology and the future of artistry and AI, Imogen’s latest innovation Auracles not only highlights Imogen’s desire to embrace emerging technologies but to protect independent artists, like herself, along the way. Built upon 10 years of foundational work with The Creative Passport, an Auracle ID is a sovereign digital ID for artists that will help them retain visibility and control of their creative IP in an increasingly opaque digital world. Auracles provides both a home for their creative works and supports the future tools to declare permissions and ethically do business with future services. One immediate win with this approach is “sampling made easy” turning licensing into a collaborative and streamlined process. Imogen’s own music has been widely sampled, both with and without her permissions, and with Auracles she aims to encourage collaboration by connecting creators directly and fairly with the other artists or entities that may wish to license or sample their work.

Speak For Yourself (20th Anniversary Remaster) will be released for the first time on heavyweight 180g double black vinyl, the most high-fidelity physical format the album has ever received. Alongside comes a set of limited edition vinyl variants - bold, collectible pressings that speak to the album’s eclectic and emotional palette. The record's iconic artwork has also been reimagined, amplifying its original spirit while embracing the passage of time. Under Heap’s direction, the playfully filtered portrait is reborn with richer colours, and a refreshed halftone pattern that vibrates with new life – much like the record itself. Twenty years later, Speak for Yourself still sounds unmistakably like the future.

To celebrate the album’s 20th anniversary, Imogen will host a special livestream today @ 1pmEST / 6pmBST broadcasting across all major platforms. Fans are invited to join the conversation via the chat on heapster.live, where she’ll be answering questions live. For the past two decades, Imogen has explored new ways to connect directly with her audience - inviting them into her process, her home, and her ideas. This chat will be the heart of that connection.
