Ferguson Hi-Fi have shared their debut single ‘Get Over It’, out now via Movie Records.

‘Get Over It’ is a thrilling rush of guitar pop. It captures the joy and excitement of starting afresh for Pete Ferguson who leads this new band, and previously released music as Wuh Oh.

‘Get Over It’ represents renewal for him, and this exhilarating re-introduction perfectly sets out where he is going next with confidence and purpose. The song features indie royalty with Stevie Jackson of Belle & Sebastian and Dave McGowan of Teenage Fanclub playing on the track. 

Pete Ferguson talks about Get Over it ahead of its release - 

“I had a day booked in the studio with Stevie (Jackson) from Belle & Sebastian, Dave (McGowan) from Teenage Fanclub and my wee brother Mike, but a couple days before the session I had the feeling there was still one song missing. I got out of bed in the middle of the night, picked up the guitar and thrashed out what would become Get Over It in one go, singing gobbledegook into my dictaphone. In the morning I wrote lyrics based off the nonsense and found tonnes of meaning buried in it. The vibe I got was bitter rumination but also a sort of burgeoning excitement for being free of the whole thing. Even though I’m saying I can’t get over it, I’m also saying thank God it’s over.

“I brought it to my ad hoc Glasgow supergroup and it instantly came alive. I knew straight away we had the first Ferguson Hi-Fi single.”

Stevie appearing on the track follows Pete’s previous work with Belle & Sebastian, where he wrote and produced the band’s single ‘I Don’t Know What You See In Me’ from their album ‘Late Developers’.

As Wuh Oh, Pete made a name for himself as one of the most exciting producers around. After signing with a major label, just before Covid, things went awry and after leaving the label he turned to alcohol. Now sober and living in his native Glasgow, Pete is ready to re-engage with the pop world and ‘Get Over It’ is the opening instalment. A prolific writer, he already has many songs ready to go with this new four-piece band, and will be releasing a string of singles between now and the end of the year. 

After recently playing their first live shows in Glasgow, Ferguson Hi-Fi supported Sharp Pins. They will also be performing at Tenement Trail in Glasgow on Saturday 10th October. 

Ahead of the release of ‘Get Over It’, Pete released ‘Fergusongs Vol. 1’ via Bandcamp. The cassette-only collection features 10 demos recorded by Pete on his dictaphone, marking his first return to music after Wuh Oh. Scratchy yet charming, it offered an early glimpse of the ideas and creative process that would later come into full focus with Ferguson Hi-Fi.

As a songwriter, Pete wrote hits for Sophie Ellis-Bextor, D.O.D and Hannah Laing amongst others, and has been a much sought-after producer.
