Manchester based, North East natives Cutscene share punchy new effort ‘Imperium’, out today (July 8th), marking the final preview from debut EP ‘A Piece Of Life’ (pre-order here), set for release this Friday (July 10th) via Heist or Hit (Westside Cowboy, Her’s, ladylike).

Newly partnered with the indie heavyweights Heist or Hit, the band’s debut EP has already spawned lead singles ‘Concrete Line’,  with its brutalist guitars and angelic, emotive vocals of frontman Seb Mason, and pulsating second effort ‘Shrine (Give Me A Chance)’. In their final EP reveal ‘Imperium’, the quartet expertly ignite small, isolated pockets of burning distortion, whipping up at the perimeter of the chorus to blaze in one spectacular wildfire.

The track itself enters the mind of an articulate manipulator, examining masculinity not as bluster but as the strategic wielding of language and knowledge as weapons to dissect the agency of another.

Having burst onto the scene earlier this year, Cutscene have already made quite the impression, with plaudits arriving from key indie press champions including NME, DIY, Rolling Stone UK, The Line Of Best Fit, Wonderland, Rough Trade and Under The Radar. Coupled with nods of approval across the BBC 6 Music airwaves (Huw Stephens, Emily Pilbeam), the four-piece are lining themselves up for a busy autumn period with several tastemaker festival appearances following their EP’s arrival.

Detailing their latest track, Mason added: “One thing I love about ‘Imperium’ is there are different ways it could be interpreted. In one scenario, it’s a broken relationship, someone studying and manipulating their partner to hold power over them. In another, it could be viewed as a political figure controlling their society.”
