Manchester based, North East natives Cutscene announce debut EP ‘A Piece Of Life’ (pre-order here), set for release July 10th via Heist or Hit, and share pulsating new single ‘Shrine (Give Me A Chance)’, out June 3rd.

Newly signed to indie heavyweights Heist or Hit (Westside Cowboy, Her’s, ladylike), the band’s debut EP ditches the lumbering masculinity of post-punk alienation and courts the spectral stillness of a city under siege. In newest offering ‘Shrine (Give Me A Chance)’, their cracked, staccato rhythm guitar is plastered over by a topline that sounds like taking a bend at 60mph. It treats both love and homeland, Durham, as architectural traps, the song’s protagonist curdling into claustrophobia.

Marking the follow-up to EP lead single ‘Concrete Line’, with its brutalist guitars and angelic, emotive vocals of frontman Seb Mason, the rising quartet have made quite the early impression, with press plaudits arriving via NME, The Line Of Best Fit, Wonderland and Rough Trade to name a few, as well as nods of approval across the BBC 6 Music airwaves (Huw Stephens, Emily Pilbeam). With several tastemaker festival appearances lined up across the autumn following their EP’s arrival, Cutscene are primed and ready to take full advantage.

Speaking ahead of the track’s release, the group stated: “The song was inspired by the idea of someone fleeing from their wedding ceremony as they are saying their vows. We wrote the song to show the potential fragility present in all relationships. The song's structure switches lyrically between the perspective of the person who is uncertain about a future together, and their partner who is living in an artificial world fueled by a craving for the perfect relationship. This obsessive drive led to the song name ‘Shrine’, a place or thing which is venerated or prayed over, while the pop cliche (Give me a chance) emulates the sugary sweet nature of idealised love.”

‘Shrine (Give Me A Chance)’ by Cutscene is out now via Heist or Hit on all streaming platforms.

Cutscene are:

Seb Mason (vocals/guitar), Jack Ellis (bass), Jacob Shotton (guitar), Ollie Little (drums)
