Fuzzy Manchester quartet cruush release new single ‘Great Dane’ via Heist or Hit (Westside Cowboy, Her’s, Nature TV) which is available on a special double-A vinyl release with last year’s ‘Rupert Giles’.Updating their trademark hazy sound to something a little brighter, bolder, and more solid, cruush embark on their new phase with intentionality at the core - trialling producers, stripping the old sound for parts, and arriving at tracks that are purposely more direct. Allied to this is a perkier presentation - taking in and celebrating a ‘90s MTV’ style, timely, given the recent news of the purely music focused TV channels in their stable’s demise.Vocalists and lyricist Amber Warren details some of the latest single’s themes - marrying the nature of a banal commute with surrealist imagery:“It’s a song about the 20 to 28 minutes on the train between Todmorden and Manchester Victoria. A daily commute can really poison how beautiful a journey is. Like an oil spill devastating the countryside outside Rochdale; Smithybridge has been absolutely fucked, mate. The title comes from the line ‘there’s a Great Dane in my pocket again’ which is ridiculous because a Great Dane would never fit in your pocket. Unless it was a tiny little one. We tend to carry too much around in our pockets, though, don’t we?We came up with the riff in a guitar shop in London before a gig. Pure Waynes World - ‘there I was man with this axe staring me down. I slipped off my fingerless leather gloves and the riff just came straight out of it’. It’s how I imagine The Darkness write their songs.” cruush back the release of ‘Great Dane’ and ‘Rupert Giles’ up with an exciting live plot through the first part of 2026.

Broadcasters and journalists alike are enchanted, with Jack Saunders (BBC Radio 1), Steve Lamacq (BBC 6), Emily Pilbeam (BBC 6), John Kennedy (Radio X), The Independent, NYLON, NME, Brooklyn Vegan, DORK, DIY, So Young, The Line of Best Fit, Clash, Rough Trade and Consequence of Sound lining up to call themselves fans. Likewise, their peers are equally captivated, earning the outfit tours and shows with BDRMM, Pale Blue Eyes, NewDad, GIFT, BASHT and Girl Scout. The pervasive gloaming of Manchester’s suburbs is present in cruush’s sonic DNA. Yet there’s more to their sound, an evolutionary gear shift that has ushered in a new era of tightly wound grunge-pop ragers. To enact the change, they enlisted the help of producer Owen Turner at Sickroom Studios in Norfolk (whose most recent credits include the last two Brownhorse records). cruush’s sound is potent and tender, and sincere to the point of snot-crying. Or as the band themselves put it, “gross, awkward but pretty fucking rockin’!” Its music forged in the drudgery of service jobs and rainy Manchester nights, buried in cosy blankets of indie-rock fuzz, yet somehow sprouting through the rusty layers of sheet metal that should prevent it from blooming. Collectively, they have a kind of sonic survival instinct. “Over the last 12 months, we’ve had a lot of letdowns. We felt it was a pretty dull year with creative setbacks. However, it made us realise how much we can depend on each other. That’s how a band should be.” And quite honestly, that is how a band should be.
