cowboyy sign to Big Scary Monsters (Modern Baseball, Lambrini Girls) and announce their ‘revocder’ EP (pre-order here), set for release September 25th, alongside lead single ‘the chair mountain’, out today (July 29th).

Partnering with the cult indie label for their newest extended release, the noisy South Coast outfit make a brand of psychedelic, guitar-fuelled math rock that is as catchy as it is gloriously unhinged. Built on intricate riffs, pop songwriting structures, flashes of hardcore punk and an unwavering belief that music should feel human rather than flawless, cowboyy occupy a space where technicality never comes at the expense of personality.

After turning heads with their ‘epic the movie’ EP and earning praise from the likes of NME, DIY, Dork and beyond in the process (+ BBC 6 Music airplay), cowboyy return with ‘revocder’ (EP). Rather than trying to recreate what came before, the new EP deliberately pulls in another direction, embracing stranger ideas, heavier sounds and some unpredictable moments that happen when instinct takes over. It's a record obsessed with movement: between cities, line-ups, dreams and reality, and between precision and complete chaos.

That spirit is perfectly captured by lead single ‘the chair mountain’. Written during a period where frontman Stan Powell was equally consumed by Hieronymus Bosch's The Garden of Earthly Delights, lucid dreaming, and the simple goal of making something that sounded nothing like ‘epic the movie’, the song first arrived almost entirely in his sleep before being brought to life at rehearsal later that day. Imagined from the outset as an instrumental, it became cowboyy's surreal translation of Bosch's impossible landscapes, layered with heavier pedals and noisier textures than ever before. 

Speaking ahead of their first release of 2026, cowboyy stated: “‘the chair mountain’ was a song composed within a dream. It was a time where I felt like I was trying to prove something after ‘epic the movie’,  which was a very simple, easy to listen to EP. I was trying to write something shocking. It was heavily inspired by the work of Hieronymus Bosch, whose imagery influenced the sound and general style of the song. I wanted to create an audio version of a painting of that nature. Inference works in weird ways. There’s other influences musically that become obvious when pointed out like Don Caballero too and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard."
