Brighton indie favourites Opus Kink share brand new single ‘I’m A Pretty Showboy’ (video here), out today (October 7th - BBC 6 Music premiere Steve Lamacq last night) via Hideous Mink Records (Y, Alien Chicks) & SO Recordings (Enter Shikari, Deadletter, Big Special).
Fresh from spearheading ‘A Hideous Collective’ - a compilation album raising funds for Music Venue Trust and UK Artist Touring Fund and featuring Wunderhorse, English Teacher and Katy J Pearson - the group’s eccentric new offering follows a busy summer of shows throughout the UK and Europe, and precedes their biggest headline show to date at London’s iconic Electric Ballroom on 7th November.

Equipped with their ever-mutating brand of jazz-and-country-laced punk, the enigmatic sextet have developed a sound as elusive as it is recognisable, and bear passing resemblance to post-punk and no-wave acts such as The Pop Group, Birthday Party and Lounge Lizards; but it’s the weaving of older, more traditional influences - choral, folk, country, Latin, Weimar cabaret, cruise-ship-crooner - into the fabric of their music that sets them apart from many of their contemporaries.
Attracting widespread plaudits in recent times throughout the press landscape (The Sunday Times, The Independent, NME, Stereogum, DIY, Dork, So Young, Clash, Under The Radar), as well as notching up three appearances on the BBC 6 Music playlist (Steve Lamacq, Lauren Laverne) and countless BBC 1 Radio spins (Jack Saunders), Opus Kink are primed for a mammoth 2026 that will encompass the release of their highly anticipated debut album.
Detailing ‘I’m a Pretty Showboy’, frontman Angus Rogers revealed: “Here is our song, rock and roll music for the empty and stunning. A song about contempt, appetite, impotence and self-preservation through gyration. Enjoy superficially with your body and send the reeling mind on to hell! There is a world in which blues-riff basslines, big-band horns, Black Sabbath breakdowns, Samuel Beckett, breakbeat and trad folk refrains live happily together, perhaps not the one we live in, yet here we are.The first song recorded of what might be considered a ‘collection’ of some form. Stay with us now. On me, sailors!”
Opus Kink’s ‘I’m A Pretty Showboy’ is out now via Hideous Mink Records & SO Recordings and available on all digital platforms.
Opus Kink is Angus Rogers (lead vocals, guitars), Sam Abbo (bass, backing vocals), Fin Abbo (drums, percussion), Jazz Pope (keys, synth, backing vocals), Jack Banjo Courtney (trumpet), Jed Morgans (saxophone)
