SELECT ACCLAIM FOR ALIEN CHICKS:
“Alien Chicks are determined to unseat you at every turn. It’s total strangeness, but you suspect that’s exactly the way Alien Chicks want it” NME
“Alien Chicks have cemented themselves as an essential name on London’s gig circuit” DIY
“A collection of punk ferocity, rap’s raw edge, and jazz’s wild spontaneity” Dork
“Their thunderous, flash-in-the-pan bouts of intensity” Clash
London post-punk specialists Alien Chicks sign to Alcopop! Records (Art Brut, Ditz, The Wytches) & announce their ‘Toys Taken At Birth’ EP (pre-order here), set for release October 2nd, alongside news of lead single ‘5/4’ (video here), out today (April 21st).

Marking their first new material of 2026, ‘5/4’ channels the monotony of lockdown isolation, and the double life of working as full time school teachers just to keep making music (as two members of Alien Chicks do!). Building from unease into controlled chaos and the subsequent breakdown - a hallucination of a teddy bear’s picnic where life is harmonious and simple - the track snaps back with a brief clarity, turning frustration into catharsis, and restraint into a barely contained urge to tear it all down.
Armed with a collection of diverse influences and a fearless approach to their genre, Alien Chicks continue to push boundaries and define expectations, whilst critical acclaim continues to gather momentum in the process. Press praise from key titles including The Independent, NME, DIY, Dork, Clash, Rolling Stone, CMU and Rough Trade has certainly helped raise their profile, as well as regular airplay across the BBC Radio 1 (Jack Saunders, Arielle Free, Amy Lamé), BBC 6 Music (Steve Lamacq, Tom Robinson) and Radio X (John Kennedy) airwaves.
Primed to head out on a UK in-store run and European tour this autumn to coincide with their EP release, the band are ready to build on their thrilling live reputation, having already supported esteemed contemporaries such as English Teacher, Lambrini Girls, Sprints, Maruja and Big Special.
Speaking ahead of their single release, the trio explained: “‘5/4’ is a staple of our live sets and mosh pits, and was written about the pressure of surviving under a system that leaves little room to live. It traces the slow fracture of a 9-to-5, where creativity is squeezed into whatever time capitalism doesn’t take. The shifting time signature - grounded in 5 but slipping into 6 - mirrors that instability, a constant sense of imbalance.”
Alien Chicks’ ‘5/4’ is out now via Alcopop! Records and available on all digital platforms.
