Social Distortion
Southern California punk rock legends Social Distortion made a triumphant return to London's legendary KOKO in Camden. Marking their first headline show in the capital in four years, following a previous cancellation. The performance was a raw, masterfully executed celebration of survival and rock 'n' roll grit. Frontman Mike Ness was back in ferocious fighting form after a hard-fought battle with tonsil cancer. He commanded the historic stage with the swagger and authority of a true punk outlaw.

The Sound and Atmosphere
The historic tiers of KOKO were packed to the rafters with an electrified, multi-generational crowd. From the opening chords, the band delivered their unmistakable, heavy-hitting blend of 1980s punk, rockabilly, and blues-infused rock 'n' roll. The venue’s famously booming acoustics captured every ounce of the band's trademark low-frequency crunch. Ness's gravelly vocals carried a renewed, bruised urgency that cuttingly cut through the wall of dual-guitar distortion. No more evidence was needed that the opening raucous tone of "Born To Die", a sound of intent with tracks from the new album, also titled Born To Kill, in abundance.

Setlist Highlights
The performance struck a perfect balance between long-awaited new material and timeless punk rock anthems
"Ball and Chain", delivered with a slightly slowed down, rootsy swagger that had the entire multi-tiered balcony singing along in unison, with phones aloft.
"Story of My Life" the last song before the encore, that injected a massive wave of nostalgic energy throughout the hot, sweaty room.
"Ring of Fire", the band wrapped up the night with their iconic, hyper-charged Johnny Cash cover, leaving the crowd completely sated and gloated on pure grade A Rock 'n' Roll.

Mike Ness
“It’s about that idea of going out there to do what you do, whatever that may be, and killing it" I quote Mike Ness, this is his mantra and with a cool persona he and Social Distortion put on a masterclass, even after this long they know the right chords for the right songs, with the right overdrive - believe it or not that is not as simple as it looks.
