Samantha Fish storms Camden on Tour
Koko on a damp Sunday evening produces guitar masterclass
Artist - Samantha Fish / The Zac Schulze Gang
Venue - The Koko Camden
Town - London UK
Date - 6th October 2024

The venue for this Samantha Fish show on her current Tour is Koko, an original theatre on the edge of Camden which evolved from it’s 1900 inception into a fantastic atmospheric Music venue. Thank God it is still a venue for live music as it is perfect to soundcase acts like Samantha Fish.
First up we had an energetic blues / speed / rush of a performance from The Zac Schulze Gang proving to be an excellent appetiser for the main course to come. Blues / Rock standards were sprinkled between original songs, all containing finger blistering solos from Zac along with able assistance from the four strings of Ant Greenwell, from time to time soloing himself using every fret available on the bass. They certainly demonstrated their cohesion and well honed craft to the max.
A short turnaround which allowed time to look up at this wonderful building and also grab a pint before Fish entered the stage.
Who could argue with anyone starting a set with Kick Out the Jams other than how do you keep up that momentum? No problem at all, the first few songs were rocking out until Chills and Fever eased us back down off our toes with it’s well delivered vocals to the fore.
On Miles to go Fish was passed her Cigar Box guitar which developed a troublesome personality about half way through and I thought we were going to experience a Townshend style guitar swing as it was clearly irksome. Though she quickly shrugged off the irritating instrument to carry on with her enthusiastic performance. Her solos felt unhinged and wildly expressive, full of spontaneity.
A simmering Dream Girl led us towards the encore of I put a spell on you then Zac Schulze’s chance to return to trade solos on Goin Down South. A rockin’ finish to file out into Camden, the buzz slowly ebbing away as we headed home.
