Maximo Park play Concorde 2 in Brighton
On current Autumn Tour for the new album "Stream Of Life"
Artist - Maximo Park
Venue - Concorde 2
Town - Brighton UK
Date - 20th October 2024
Stream of Life is proving a great follow up to the excellent Nature Always Wins but looks to have more of a live pedigree than it's predecessor, the songs adapting perfectly to the stage as witnessed last night in Brighton. There were 8 songs from the new album nestling their way between the now expansive Maximo Park back catalogue. Starting straight off with "Your own worst enemy" which has a traditional taste of twenty year old Maximo Park with plenty of riffage, where as the rest of the new tracks relied heavily on the songcraft and after a few listens are definite "growers". From those played "Favourite songs" and "The end can be as good as the start" stood out particularly.
The first two LP's provided the most singalong moments, arms aloft and conducted by Paul Smith during "Apply Some Pressure", "Our Velocity" and last song of the night "Graffiti"
This was not supposed to be on the setlist as Smith explained there was to be variation in the set each night and "Graffiti" was to be left out. A bit of discussion and crowd input led to some joy for all as the song was restored to finish with a win for the audience. Though the song that was replaced may be a mystery...
