Two Day Coma

Two Day Coma are a Bristol based four-piece band blending Britpop, indie, grunge, and folk, featuring childhood friends Tom Harris (vocals) and Jake Scarborough (Bass), along with Ollie Lucas (Guitar and Synths) and Zac Harkavy (drums). Known for their reflective inward looking lyrics and a raw, DIY sound, they have been active in the independent scene for over eight years now.

Two Day Coma

It was clear when seeing the band Live last week that they still possess their DIY ethic, which is great to still see as it holds the key to their popularity for me. As lead singer Tom Harris, with a smirk on his face, mentioned they are prone to the odd miscue when playing and this was the first gig on a short burst of Live outings.

Video for "Still"

The songs are performed in a simplistic way and you can see and hear their origins probably sitting together in a bedroom, they hold a claustrophobic cocoon around them as if playing them live will break their spell? They started with "The Big Reveal" I believe to be their latest single, full of rhythmic hand claps before the band come in with lilting guitar, bass and drums... beautiful.

On "Still" the song is under pinned by a repetitive synth refrain for Tom Harris to semi-rap over, his vocal delivery which reminded me of Athlete or The Streets without the polish. A song that seems to be looking for a simpler life, trying to get to what is behind what we do day to day? I would like to hear what is behind his lyrics...

What was clear to me was the enjoyment Two Day Coma take from playing, maybe they need to get out more HAHA but please don't succumb to the gloss and polish!!
