Beabadoobee on Tour at The Brighton Dome
The Filipino-British singer produced a crowd pleasing performance
An icy cold November night saw Beabadoobee take to the stage of a sold-out Brighton dome as part of a tour commemorating the release of her 3rd and latest studio album: This is How Tomorrow Moves.
New York indie rock band Momma set the tone for the evening playing a mix of songs including their latest release: "Ohio All The Time". They were received with cheers and applause by the eager fans who had queued up for over an hour in the cold to get the best views in the house.
They also played some tunes from their album: Household name, which were played at a steady pace, there was not much time for lead singers Etta Friedman and Allegra Weingarten to address the crowd between songs, their set was over relatively quickly leaving a short gap for Beabadoobee’s team to set the stage for the main event.
The staging for Beabadoobee was very interesting, leaning into the homemade feel of her breakout hits. There was a large white sheet draped over the background against which colourful images and videos were projected. In front of the sheet stood a solitary orange tree, which at one point became a sprawling tree when the sheet was pulled down to reveal that the orange tree filled the entire stage.
Beabadoobee certainly had a dedicated fanbase, a connection formed both through her music and also her use of social media such as TikTok where she engages with her fans. Her every word was met with a chorus of screams and yells of “We love you Bea!” Even the stage technician was receiving cheers every time he came on to swap guitars.
Most of the songs played were from her newest album This is How Tomorrow Moves. The sound is a development of her early indie bedroom pop music that took the internet by storm during lockdown. Songs such as "Take a Bite" and "Real Man" were met with some of the loudest cheers.
Beabadoobee introduced some of her songs with little jokes to Segway the gap when she needed to change guitars for example claiming that Shawn Mendes had the prettiest eyes she had Ever Seen or that stage technician Rowan was a Real Man.
She also played some of her earlier songs from the period which brought her to such high acclaim, including breakout hit "Coffee" as well as "Glue Song". It is clear from these shorter songs that her sound had evolved over the years whilst keeping some of the charm that brought her to public attention, her sound has become richer and more varied, especially noticeable in songs like "Ever Seen".
