Lowsunday’s sound is a melting pot of desire and loneliness, conjuring up vivid images of an underground club night, where lusty blends with, er, musty. As striking basslines reverberate around the dank walls, a couple are nearly f**king in one corner. A desperate singleton looks around hopefully; another scrolls on their phone; someone else is off their tits and moving enthusiastically to the whirling guitar and driving beat. In just a few minutes, Shane Sahene and Bobby Spell have managed to paint a portrait of human nature in all its fragile, bleak and sexually-charged beauty, in a way that’s actually quite satisfying, rather than being as depressing as it sounds. Like I said, potentially the soundtrack to your most sordid Friday night or even to your favourite cult superhero film (think ‘The Crow’ or ‘The Crow: City of Angels’ for the 90s kids reading).

Championing themselves as pioneers of US shoegaze in the mid-90’s, Sahene and Spell took 25 years off for some unknown reason, but return with a loud and fuzzy nod to their undoubted heroes, Joy Division, via their recent ‘Black EP’. Rooted in nostalgia and raw emotion, Lowsunday perfectly avenge the desolation of modern life- trying to forge connections in a time where most mere homo sapiens are disposable - by embracing it through their songwriting.

Lyrics detailing the perils of ignoring the all-important red flags in a relationship echo around messy soundscapes to delight the introverted listener, sipping their pint against the wall, and give the extroverts something to dance to. Which one are you?
